Multinationals should expect tepid growth again in 2020 due to an unfavorable global environment coupled with domestic policy uncertainty. Furthermore, global trade tensions and unexpected political transitions in the region remain the key risks to monitor in business scenario planning. Most countries will grow at 2019 levels, but Brazil’s stronger recovery next year will lift average regional growth, although resilient pockets of opportunity will still exist across markets and customer segments in the region. Given fragile growth dynamics, companies should make sure they are building enough resilience and responsiveness into their plans. Surgical customer segmentation, using digital tools to create customer value and operational efficiencies, and aligning channels and teams for greater responsiveness will be key for success.
