Overview
Heading into a second straight year of negative economic growth, Argentina is beginning to see some of its key payers show financial stress from falling resource generation and strong depreciation of the local currency. The healthcare sector in general is one of the last sectors to feel the impacts of an economic crisis, and in the case of Argentina, where the key social security payers had fairly robust financial positions – with clear exception – prior to the recession, this is even more true and has shown up in local business performance. That said, the sustained contraction of real wages and the impact on social security revenues is beginning to put pressure on key payers that are increasingly pushing for the government to transfer new resources and seek measures to restrain cost growth.
